Description

Summary: Performs system troubleshooting and system design for radio and wireless communications systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Adjusts controls and tests systems using specified equipment and runs diagnostic checks.
  • Troubleshoots customer concerns and resolve issues with their communications system in the field and in the shop.
  • Installs, repairs and maintains equipment as indicated by results of testing and coordinate repairs with customers/vendors to ensure resolution of problem.
  • Assists with quotes and bids to determine customer needs.
  • Maintains operation of complex radio systems and 911 communications centers.
  • Performs system programming following industry practices.
  • Completes installation of radio and wireless mobile and base communications systems.


Other Skills and Abilities:



  • Requires thorough knowledge of wireless communications systems, electronic and RF principles, and NetSuite operations.
  • Must have the ability to work in complex radio systems with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot problems with communications systems and use optimizations and basic system design skills.
  • Ability to repair and maintain operation of complex radio systems and 911 communications centers. Thorough knowledge of infrastructure components including repeaters, mobiles, portables, and miscellaneous signaling equipment. Knowledge of industry-standard test equipment.


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. May train and supervise other technician(s).


Education and/or Experience:



  • Five to seven years' experience in 2-way radio and wireless communication systems theory. Able to use computer and program, troubleshoot, perform diagnostics, and repair complex communication systems.
  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or vocational school in electronics and wireless system repair is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in diagnostics, repair, maintenance, program wireless communication equipment such as 2-way radios, transmitters, receivers, antennas for customers.
  • Experienced with dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, and trunked radio systems. Knowledge of radio repair, mobile installations, DC, AC, and RF Theory as it applies to wireless communications.


Licenses, Certifications: An industry license (FCC, FICA or NARTE). A valid driver license and insurability in the state of employment. CET or NABER certification.
