JOB SUMMARY: The Instructional Technologist is primarily responsible for proactively supporting the use of new and current technologies in the classroom and online to enhance the quality of the education provided to our students. This individual works with Instructional Designers, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Academic Program Directors (PDs), and Department Chairs (DCs) to identify, assess, implement, and support the most appropriate technology applications for each course developed. The Instructional Technologist contributes to resolving student and instructor technical issues in a timely fashion. This is a full-time, twelve-month staff position funded by the US Department of Education FIPSE IREPO grant. There is a possibility of contract renewal, pending grant funding. Candidates within commuting distance to Longmeadow, MA preferred; remote options possible. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Identify, assess, test, deploy, and support instructional technologies utilized at the University related to teaching and learning.
- Import and build courses in the University's learning management system (Canvas).
- Work collaboratively with Instructional Designers, Program Directors, Department Chairs, and Subject Matter Experts through the course development process, from initial brainstorming stages, such as recommending technology tools, to final implementation of tools in various platforms.
- Provide consultation to faculty related to advancements and innovations in development and delivery of content via current and new technologies. This interaction includes one-on-one consultation, workshops, training sessions, manuals, and guidelines on how best utilize technology to enhance the learning experience.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders throughout the University.
- Provide training sessions, workshops and one-on-one consultation for the use of specific software and hardware tools as needed to support continued growth in the use of technology in teaching.
- Assist in the development of video and text-based tutorials to assist students and faculty in using Canvas, third-party tools, and adaptive technology.
- Attend trainings as required.
- Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the University.
Job Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in educational/instructional technology, digital/internet media/video production, or related field.
- Experience in a higher education environment, preferably in an instructional technology role.
- At least three (3) years of related professional experience with learning technologies such as learning management systems, collaboration tools, and e-portfolios.
- Experience with building online course content within learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience with content development tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Google Apps, Snagit, Camtasia, and e-learning authoring software.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills especially as relates to interpretation of requirements from non-technical faculty and staff.
- Training/teaching experience which includes leading workshops, developing training materials, and one-on-one consultation.
- Ability and willingness to keep skills and knowledge current in a rapidly changing field.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete tasks according to established deadlines.
- Skills in gathering and processing information to provide technology support to a variety of stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in teaching or training situations to a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and within FERPA guidelines.
- All new employees must complete the FERPA, Anti-Harassment, and any other required online trainings within 15 days of employment.
- Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.
