Senior Electrical Designer I

To develop designs and detailed construction drawings in a discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil/Structural) as necessary to accomplish construction and implementation of Generation and Transmission projects and modifications based upon information provided by specifications, design criteria, scopes of work or conceptual sketches. Design packages are prepared in adherence with applicable regulations, codes and industry standards and are vital for the successful completion of construction projects to ensure reliable and safe facility operations.#LI-AE1

• Develop designs and detailed construction drawings in a discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil/Structural) as necessary to accomplish construction and implementation of Generation and Transmission projects and modifications based upon information provided by specifications, design criteria, scopes of work or conceptual sketches.
• Design packages are prepared in adherence with applicable regulations, codes and industry standards and are vital for the successful completion of construction projects to ensure reliable and safe facility operations.

• Excellent technical expertise in design discipline and a high level of knowledge in engineering principles, construction techniques and generally accepted design & drafting practices.
• Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD and Raster Design. Familiarity with drawing management systems.
• Good understanding of related disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to view tasks logically and generate a design solution applying accepted standards.
• Ability to expedite work in accordance with priorities as determined by the Design Supervisor. Able to handle multiple projects.
• Ability to recognize issues that arise during the design process and solve technical problems.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to adjust to changing project requirements, priorities and assignments.

• Associate Degree in an engineering discipline or Applied Science.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Designer may be substituted for an Associate degree at the discretion of the New York Power Authority.
• Bachelor Degree in Engineering preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of applicable industry related experience in Design and Drafting.
• Minimum of 5 years design experience with a utility or an A-E firm.

• Approximately 10% - 15% travel primarily within NY State. As required, on occasion there may be travel out of NY State for inspections of equipment or for training purposes.
• Potential for exposure to cold, heat, noise, dust, chemicals, solvents and/or any other substances typically found at a Generation or Transmission facility. Exposure is minimized through proper planning and support from site personnel.
