DESCRIPTION

The City of Corona is looking for two individuals for the CIP and Traffic division of the Public Works Department. The department offers many opportunities for you to showcase your talents on numerous exciting projects impacting our local vibrant, culturally diverse communities.

The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator and exhibit professionalism and have excellent interpersonal skills. We are searching for someone who has the ability to interact with both internal and external stakeholders to proactively solve problems and enhance services.

A typical day in this position includes completing plan reviews, coordination with other City departments and divisions, multiple in-person meetings, writing staff reports, and preparing project conditions of approval.

The CIP Division manages over 150 projects for over $300 million in budget and is looking for the ideal candidate that wants to be part of a dynamic and innovative team. Are you someone who is energetic, can multi-task and likes to take on new and challenging projects?

The Traffic Engineering Division performs work involving the research of traffic trends, accidents, and safety design standards; prepares traffic studies and evaluates traffic impact reports; prepares and reviews signal, striping and signage plans; conducts field reviews, develops policies and procedures, and provides related technical information.

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, mechanical engineering.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering or structural engineering experience.
Skills/Abilities

  • Prepare, analyze, understand, and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications, and other contract documents, and determine conformance with applicable laws and standards.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply all pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures, and standards relevant to work performed.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and accurate technical reports, drawings, maps, notes, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Effectively represent the department and the City in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, and regulatory organizations and individuals.

THE ORGANIZATION

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.

The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2023 is $ 340.9 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 177.6 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 850 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.

The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill the current and/or additional vacancies throughout the City.
