Who we are looking for:

Atkore, a recent recipient of a Great Place to Work certification and a Top Workplaces USA award, is currently searching for the Plant Controller will partner with the local plant operations team and corporate management to effectively manage and control the manufacturing facility. The Plant Controller will be responsible for plant general accounting, cost accounting, fixed assets, business analysis, internal controls, forecasting, inventory control & financial reporting. This position will report to the Regional Operations Controller S&I and support the Hobart Plant Manager as well as liaison with corporate and other Business Unit financial staff, as required.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, a minimum of 7 years progressive experience with significant experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:



  • Analyze and accurately report current month's financial results to the plant and corporate management in accordance with corporate format and within time requirements.
  • Maintain general ledger and related general accounting processes.
  • Manage month, quarter and year end closing activities - preparing and posting journal entries, reviewing manufacturing expenses, completing account reconciliations.
  • Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain book to physical adjustments.
  • Document processes and implement standard work within plant.
  • Team with plant controller colleagues to drive standard work across the plants.
  • Collaborate with plant manager and leadership team to meet P&L, productivity, KPI and working capital targets for all SBU's supported.
  • Provide variance analysis and reporting tools for operations value stream teams.
  • Ensure bill of material and costing accurately reflect production operations.
  • Support fixed asset capital spending and tracking requirements.
  • Develop forecasts and budgets.
  • Ensure accurate and timely business transaction recording in the ERP system, including Accounts Payable, Payroll, Inventory, and Fixed Assets.
  • Maintain plant internal accounting controls to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
  • Document and understand ERP/MRP systems.
  • Support and participate in ERP JDE implementation.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance. CMA or MBA a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, with significant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP required.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office with expert level Excel.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing preferred.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Action oriented - enjoys working towards goals/deadlines.
  • Customer focus - dedicated to meeting the operations team expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to work within a team or independently.


Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
  • Gain an understanding of the Operations Management team.
  • Understand Atkore policies for accounting and internal controls and GAAP


Within 6-months, you'll:



  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports and statements
  • Facilitate the consistent application of internal controls and Sarbanes Oxley compliance audit activity
  • Work closely with the Operations Management team on various ad hoc requests
  • Review internal accounting processes making recommendations for streamlining opportunities
  • Work on Capital Requests with the Operations Management Team


Within 12-months, you'll:



  • Execute financial analytics pertaining to month-end close, monthly forecasting and the annual budgeting process
  • Perform monthly accounting close and reporting activities in timely and accurate manner including preparing GL entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Oversee the development, analysis, and management of plant standard costs including leading the annual standard cost process
