About This Role:



The Cashiers and Student Services office is seeking applicants to fill an Accountant II position to oversee the collection processes which includes all communications with students, departments, collection agencies, and the State of Kansas Set-Off program.



  • Oversee the monthly billing statements for any current or former student with a balance due. Verify that all processes completed, including default charge assessment, column updates and checklist updates. Verify that billing information is correct and publish the bills as appropriate. Initiate email notifications when new statements are available and verify, they go out to students and designees as appropriate. Generate aging reports as needed.
  • Working independently, manage the various loan programs, including the Perkins Loans and Health Professions Loans which are partnerships with the Department of Education. Follow and verify strict compliance to all rules and regulations and closely monitor changes in requirements as mandated by the Department of Education. Collaboration will be required with the Department of Education, ECSI (their loan services), UAS (our loan servicer), NSLDS, Student Financial Assistance and student borrowers to maintain the program.
  • Function as the primary liaison between contracted student loan billing services and borrowers of Perkins and Health Profession Loans. Duties include accessing the billing service's computer system to obtain information regarding borrowers.
  • Supervise the Collection processes including the distribution of all past due notices. Submit accounts to the various collection agencies and the State Set Off program as necessary. Serve as the primary liaison with those agencies. Monitor agency activities, post payments and recall accounts as appropriate.
  • Analyze student K-State Student Information System (KSIS) accounts as necessary to answer questions and provide information to students with questions about their accounts. Work with students having financial holds that prevent them from enrolling and receiving transcripts. Work to maintain a positive relationship with students always, but first and foremost keep the University's financial interests in mind.

What You'll Need to Succeed:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma and two years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, management or other similar field of study
  • Four years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of K-State Student Information System (KSIS) and Financial Information System (FIS)
  • Ability to make mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately
  • Ability to detect and reconcile discrepancies in financial data
  • Ability to communicate, understand and explain financial data
