A Program Manager provides leadership to a team of highly technical engineers and scientists to ensure mission success, understanding of end-to-end design and development efforts of missile defense systems. They are analytical, responsive, and passionate. They are adept at team management, development and mentoring of staff, and conflict resolution, and can evaluate the health of a program, providing corrective action ahead of the problem. They are excellent communicators to internal and external technical and senior leaders, ensuring timely and accurate status reporting and accountability. They drive program execution by maintaining tight schedules, identifying and mitigating risks as well as effectively managing program resources, schedule, and budget. At the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL), we support a variety of missions, including NASA's vision to reveal the unknown for the benefit of humankind and the Department of Defense's aim to protect our Nation on the ground, in the air, and in space. Our sensors, satellites, software systems, and science and engineering play an essential role in some important missions you've heard of, and others that you haven't.

The Missile Defense Branch (MDB) of the Strategic and Military Space (SMS) Division is seeking a mid to Sr level PM to support current Missile Defense Agency (MDA), Space Development Agency (SDA) and Space Systems Command (SSC) customers.

Key Duties:
  • Provides leadership to a team of business and technical professionals in execution of program tasks and objectives
  • Works with other PMs to ensure that all required resources such as engineering, manpower, computer resources, networks, facilities, etc., are available for the program
  • Plans, directs, and monitors program budget and serves as the primary customer contact for program information
  • Leads business development efforts within current customer base and/or future customers
  • Manages projects of substantial risk and complexity
  • Ensures project deliverables meet requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule and cost
  • Leads customer interfacing and program reviews (milestone & final)
Required Qualifications:
  • 10 or more years experience in program or project management with DoD or MDA programs
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Delivers clear, well-organized presentations
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team environment
  • Competent in managing budgets and schedules, as well as concepts such as critical paths, budget margins, etc.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Some travel may be required
  • BS or higher in a relevant field (e.g. Business, Finance, Communications, HR)
  • Active DoD SECRET government security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 15 or more years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated skill in building and maintaining positive working relationships with customers, immediate team and other stakeholders
  • Expertise in task management, including demonstrated skill in organizing and managing a team that develops program schedules and controls budgets to meet required deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to lead proposal development efforts
  • MS or higher in a relevant field (e.g. Business, Finance, Communications, HR)
  • Active DoD TS or higher government security clearance
