Student: Engineering Assistant

Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking to hire a talented undergraduate student with more than a year of school remaining. Applicants should have some familiarity in one or more of the following areas:

  • Software and/or electronic hardware test & troubleshooting
  • Programming in Python, C and/or C++
  • Automation scripting
  • Linux operating systems
  • Network protocols
  • Programmable devices such as FPGAs, microcontrollers, etc.
  • Understanding electronic schematics
  • Using test & measurement equipment
SDL supports a variety of missions, including NASA's vision to reveal the unknown for the benefit of humankind and the Department of Defense's aim to protect our Nation on the ground, in the air, and in space.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a USU student with at least one year remaining. Preference will be given to those pursuing a computer engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science degree. Other closely related technical degrees will also be considered
  • Must be able to work 15-20 hours/week during the school year and up to 40 hours/week during the summer, preferably in 4+ hour blocks of time
  • Experience with Python, C/C++ and/or Java
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Must be consistently detail-oriented, organized, and attentive to detail
  • Able to work well individually and as part of a team
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with VM technologies & container technologies such as Docker
  • Experience with version control tools such as Git
  • Experience working in Linux command line environment
  • Experience with electronic system testing and test equipment
  • Experience with Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket
  • Willingness to learn about and use a wide array of technologies, different programming languages, and complex systems
