Position Description

Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with PhD studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions

The Hope Group, led by Dr. Qingwang (Kevin) Yuan at Texas Tech University, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to the research of carbon-free geologic hydrogen production. The successful candidate will conduct experimental investigations focused on stimulating hydrogen generation from water and iron-rich rock reactions. Responsibilities include designing and executing lab-scale experiments, analyzing data from various analytical techniques, and collaborating on modeling efforts to support experimental design.

  • Organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgement based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solution and other outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and and the public.
  • Plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.
  • Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research.
  • Responsible for interpretation of the results of publication.
  • Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project.
  • May supervise research and student assistants.

Required Qualifications

PhD in area of project specialization. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Candidates should possess a PhD in STEM with expertise in geochemistry, fluid flow, or rock fracturing, and demonstrate familiarity with batch reactor and/or flow-through experiments. Preference will be given to those with prior experience in natural or stimulated hydrogen generation and a proven track record of high-quality publications.
  • Familiar with batch reactor experiments and flow-through experiments.
  • Familiar with analytical techniques with the capabilities to interpret results from SEM, TEM, XRD, XRF, Mossbauer spectroscopy, ICP-AES, LA-ICP-MS, etc.
  • Candidates with research experience in natural and stimulated hydrogen generation will be given high priority for consideration.
  • Track record of high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
  • Good communication skills with peers, supervisors, and research community.
