Part of the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing consists of nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities and is home to more than 9,000 students. The department employs 220 full-time staff members, 21 graduate assistants and 565 undergraduate student workers. As a self-supporting auxiliary, University Housing operates a $59 million budget derived only from student housing fees and other non-state sources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of comprehensive working knowledge in building services and/or maintenance operations, including supervisory or lead work experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Previous experience in coordinating processes or projects.
  • Previous experience in maintaining inventories and account management.

Position Summary
The Residential Building Services Supervisor is a leadership position within the Facilities unit of University Housing, responsible for ensuring the successful supervision of the day-to-day building services operations within an assigned residential building or building area. This individual directly supervises between six and twelve residential building services workers. The Residential Building Services Supervisor is focused on creating systems for quality assurance and assisting with the facilities training manager to update training, protocols and policies to reflect best practices. In addition, this employee manages building services supplies and equipment for their assigned area and provides monthly review of their account purchases.

  • Thorough knowledge of custodial supplies, products, equipment, techniques and quality standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of the care and use of custodial equipment, tools and supplies common in cleaning campus facilities.
  • Proven ability to work and communicate professionally and effectively with a variety of constituents - verbally, in person and via email.
  • Proven ability to balance multiple tasks, set priorities and resolve issues quickly.
  • Exercise independent judgement and initiative in completing work assignments, demonstrated ability to follow through on tasks, and ability to identify and implement changes to increase efficiencies.
  • Excellent leadership skills that promote success.
  • Skilled at preparing clear and concise reports.
  • Capable with Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn other department and university systems (e.g., work order system, time keeping system).

Supervision of building services operations

  • Supervise six to twelve residential building services workers to include the selection and onboarding of staff, providing ongoing feedback and coaching, approving time keeping and employee leave requests, and conducting annual performance assessments.
  • Coordinate the selection process for residential building services workers assigned to the area and provide supervision.
  • Assess and implement new cleaning protocols, products, tools and equipment to ensure quality standards are met and best practices are in place. Work with the residential building services leads to tailor team trainings around quality assurance improvements.
  • Conduct regular inspections of assigned space to ensure standards and expectations met.
  • Utilize tools and processes to assess and remedy moisture and humidity levels in the residence halls, as needed. Coordinate response efforts with maintenance, engineering and project staff. Communicate findings from each assessment to various constituents.
  • Direct residential building services workers in summer-related and other special assignment activities, including overseeing any contracted building services work. Provide support, where needed.
  • Actively engage in the development, engagement & retention of each staff member.

Duties/Responsibilities
Administrative duties

  • Oversee building services supply inventories. Coordinate purchasing requests for supplies and materials. Assist in annual budgeting for supplies and review monthly status reports for accuracy of purchases.
  • Maintain inventory for building services equipment and tools. Provide ongoing evaluation of equipment conditions and assist in identifying any new tools that can better assist staff to meet the needs of on-campus residents.
  • Work collaboratively with other departmental staff on building turnovers and transitions, programming needs, and the remediation of facilities-related issues, as they arise.
  • Complete reports regarding work order reports. Monitor work requests to ensure completion on a timely basis and follow up, as appropriate.
  • Participate in short and long-range facility planning.
