The Opportunity

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando, FL, invites applicants for a 9-month, non-tenure earning lecturer, associate lecturer, senior lecturer, instructor, associate instructor, or senior instructor position with an anticipated start date of August 8, 2024. The selected candidate will serve as the senior design coordinator for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, teaching capstone design courses and serving as the faculty advisor to interdisciplinary teams at the senior undergraduate level.

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Senior Design (Capstone) program currently offers courses year-round and anticipates the need for continued supplemental summer teaching support. This position would be expected to support this schedule.

The coordination function of the role includes serving as an educational liaison to a supporting group of full-time faculty as well as industry-based adjunct faculty, with both groups serving as faculty advisors to capstone design teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned doctorate (for lecturer) or master's degree (for instructor) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution by the time of the application.

Placement within the appropriate track may be determined by either academic or position-relevant industry experience. A minimum of 6 years of experience is required for associate-level placement and a minimum of 12 years of experience is required for senior-level placement.

Experience supervising or instructing university-level capstone design teams or industry-based product/project development teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

A doctorate degree from an accredited institution is preferred. Practical engineering experience and an understanding of teamwork and communication in the context of the design process. Experience in an industry setting as a project manager or equivalent is a plus.

Design experience and background in one or more of the following areas is preferred:


  • Aerospace (propulsion, UAS/UAV design, structures),

  • Mechanical (manufacturing, robotics/mechatronics, controls),

  • Biomedical (assistive/therapeutic devices).
