Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Intern to be based out of 960 Flaherty Drive, New Bedford, MA. Reporting to Environmental Health and Safety Manager, this person will be responsible for supporting environmental, health and safety programs and maintaining compliance regulatory requirements at the site.

The ideal candidate will have a vested interest in environmental health and safety regulations and completing a course of study within the environmental, health and safety field. This person will be responsible for supporting, implementing, sustaining, and continuously improving Atkore's Safety and Environmental Management System to ensure an injury-free workplace and zero notices of violations to local, state, and federal regulations.

What you'll do:



  • Complete chemical inventories to include SDS review and hazardous communication implementation.
  • Conduct EH&S inspections.
  • Attend and provide EH&S support at daily Gemba meetings.
  • Analyze and quantify environmental health and safety metrics data.
  • Support EH&S training.
  • Support the site's monthly safety cycle cadence (employee safety committee, training, team-based safety observations, Plant Safety Review Board).
  • Conduct behavior-based safety observations and lead site's safety culture.
  • Maintain EH&S documents.
  • Support compliance with regulatory program requirements and permitting (air quality, storm water, hazardous waste, OSHA-29 CFR 1910, NFPA 70E, etc.).
  • Participate in incident and injury investigations.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis.


              What you'll bring:



              • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Science, or related field, with 1-2 years of college classes completed.
              • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel
              • Strong written & verbal communication skills
              • Excellent teaming and interpersonal skills
              • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting
